Truancy sweeps are working

MORE than 32,000 children were caught truanting during government-ordered sweeps last year, provisional figures show. About half - mostly primary pupils - were with parents. But the sweeps seem to be working: less than 1 per cent of pupils picked up during the first round in the spring were also caught during the second round before Christmas.
