The board of management at another college trouble spot has announced it is to step up efforts to improve staff relations.

Motherwell College took the decision “to review the position . . .

throughout the college” after considering the latest employment tribunal ruling against it in the case brought by Douglas Nicol, the CLA’s branch convener.

The tribunal awarded Mr Nicol pound;44,500 in compensation for his demotion - the sixth decision to have gone against Motherwell in five years, according to the CLA.

The college initially said it would appeal but has decided that, although there are grounds, “in the best interests of the college, no appeal would be lodged”.

The move to cement staff relations comes amid persistent reports of bullying by the college management and claims that staff forced out of their jobs have had their silence bought at a cost of pound;300,000 since 1996.
