In the flattering article about the work of the Specialist Schools Trust, Martin Rogers of the Education Network was quoted as saying that the trust was not accountable to anyone (TES, November 19).

This is incorrect. We are certainly accountable to the Department for Education and Skills, which provides a third of our funding. More importantly, we are accountable to the 2,500 English secondary schools which voluntarily affiliate to the trust and supply two-thirds of our income. Without their affiliation fees and the charges which they pay voluntarily for services which we make available, this trust would cease to function.

The influence which we may have is entirely due to the support which we receive from our member schools.
