Q: I have a year’s contract one day a week covering PPA and management time.

I’ve been told that this doesn’t count towards my induction year as one day a week doesn’t add up to a term over a year. Is this true?

A: It’s not true. You can and must do induction while working part-time if you have a contract for at least a term. Induction lasts for the equivalent of a school year, 190 teaching days. If you continue only working one day a week, your induction period will last five years, but the chances are you’ll increase your hours so it will take a shorter time. Keep a record of days worked as some terms are longer than others.
