In your article “Are veils a playground security risk?” (TES, February 16), you incorrectly wrote the following: “November 2005: riots took place in French cities after the government banned the hijab (headscarf) and other conspicuous religious symbols from state schools.”
That is not what happened. The riots broke out after the police had killed two youths in the banlieu. The muslim headscarf had been banned for more than two years already.
