Tunes boost brain power

Music lessons may help improve children’s health and well-being.

Susan Hallam, from London university’s institute of education, says learning to play an instrument helps concentration, and that singing assists language development. She says that music is as important to the school curriculum as English or maths but said forcing reluctant teenagers to practise can demotivate even the most-talented pupils.
