A group of geography teachers and their students won a competition to speak about the subject on the first Radio 4 Today programme of the year.

The group, called the G-team, took part in a special New Year’s Day edition, edited by listeners, which focused on the changing role of geography.

The programme examined concerns about a decline in interest in the subject and how to make it more relevant to young people by connecting it to everyday situations.

David Lambert, from the Geographical Association, said: “The G-team tried to demonstrate the links between the physical and human worlds and the connectedness of all our lives on a global scale.

“It may have been on a little early in the morning but there is a listen again facility.”
