Students at an Essex arts college had the chance to be tutored by some of the world’s finest performers when the Rambert Dance Company worked with them last week.
Britain’s oldest and largest contemporary dance company took a group of higher national diploma students through the steps to produce their own version of Swamp, the 1986 work created for Rambert by choreographer Michael Clark.
Elaine O’Connor, course team leader for performing arts at Havering college, said: “To see the development of the students in just one week has been an amazing experience. The focus shown in their own choreography improvisation has been breathtaking.”
Rambert animateur Katie Graham tutored the students. “They have learned in just three days what would normally take three weeks to complete,” she said.
The residency formed part of the college’s Arts Festival 2005, a celebration of dance, drama, fashion, fine art, graphic design, music and media.
