COLLEGES have made a joint television advertisement to entice school-leavers. The 12 Devon and Cornwall colleges took the step to increase their appeal as they compete with school sixth forms.

The commercial uses the slogan “school’s out, college’s in”. It will run for a month on ITV in the West Country from August 16 and shows a boy leaving school for the last time and arriving at an FE college. The film demonstrates the variety of the college curriculum including scenes of a girl doing motorcycle maintenance and a hairdressing salon.

“Unlike most commercials, this one doesn’t mention a brand,” said a spokesman for Cornwall College. “We are not advertising a particular college but colleges in general. It is an example of colleges working together to deal with competition we all face from school sixth forms.”
