School leader Steve Fairclough said this week that schools should cultivate a “culture of fear” to drive underperforming teachers out of the classroom (bit.lyFearIsGood).
Mr Fairclough, headteacher of a private school in Staffordshire, England, claimed that teachers should be fearful of missing out on pay rises or losing their jobs if they failed to perform. “Fear is good. Make them fear failure,” he said, prompting outrage among many teachers.
