(Photograph) - It could be two to three years before school boards are substantially reformed and become wider agencies for promoting parental involvement, Alan Smith, the re-elected SSBA president, said. Further legislation would be needed to remove restrictions and make boards more attractive.
Mr Smith, a Renfrewshire parent, said: “I would like to see school boards becoming something broader, perhaps school-community boards but this is still in its early stages.” He confirmed positive meetings with Cathy Jamieson, Education Minister, and Nicol Stephen, her deputy, following publication of the Banks report on involving parents.
