The founder of Ultralab, an internationally renowned research unit for technology in schools, is stepping down as its director.

Professor Stephen Heppell will stand down on December 31 but the 53-year-old will still retain a role in Ultralab. The new acting director is Richard Millwood.

Ultralab was involved in setting up email services for schools and is piloting assessment using mobile phones with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.
