Space does not allow me to address all the points Judith Gillespie raises in her letter (TESS, February 9). However, one cannot go unanswered. If she were to read again Learning and Teaching Scotland’s Education for Citizenship, she would find references “to the need for a respectful and caring disposition in relation to eople” and “sensitivity to other people’s needs and views”.

What it does not encourage is what Judith Gillespie has done in her letter: personally attacking others who do not share her opinion, particularly when it is based on scant information.
