SteveN Devrell should know that those attending union conferences do so in their holidays without pay because they are committed to education.

It is the people he castigates for being “peculiar” who might be answering the phone when he needs his union’s help.

It’s no good griping on about your subscription sending “the militant to Margate”. If you don’t like it, go there yorself and do something about it.

And to say bad press about conferences is why “no one wants to enter the profession” is just daft! The fact teaching is unpopular was the main concern of all delegates. By attending, they were trying to do something about it.
