School holidays mean unhealthy meals for children from poor families, according to a report from Barnardo’s. The children’s charity said the loss of free school dinners can cost a family with three children pound;25 per week. “School meals provide a nutritious main meal for children in term time, but families are worried they can only afford cheaper food that is not as healthy for their children,” it said.
