Students who want to apply to do a degree at University College London may soon need to get a foreign language qualification at school first.

Academics at the college are to vote on Tuesday over whether a foreign language should be compulsory for all applicants.

Michael Worton, Fielden Professor of French language and literature at UCL and chair of the academic committee, said it would help students to become global citizens and appreciate different cultures.
