The GMB, one of the country’s biggest unions, is targeting students who make ends meet by doing part-time jobs. Students will be offered a membership card for 10p a week and will receive all the benefits of membership and free advice. A union survey found that half of working students put in at least nine hours a week, with half paid Pounds 3.28 or less an hour.
