Unions pressing to be properly recognised by academies have produced a “model agreement” out-lining how the semi-independent schools should consult and negotiate with staff. They hope academies will sign the document, agreeing to the basics of union recognition, including allowing paid time off for union representatives, places for members to meet, office space and union noticeboards. The National Union of Teachers said there were still single sponsor academies and smaller groups where recognition was not satisfactory.
