THE Educational Institute of Scotland has called for “an overwhelming response” from members in the ballot on the employers’ pay offer. Worried that complacency could set in, the union wants a solid rejection to strengthen its hand in future negotiations. Ronnie Smith, the EIS’s general secretary, cited the key reasons for a no vote. “A rise in composite class maxima, schools whose whole management and organisation structure is dismantled with no coherent structure put in their place, teachers who have less time to spend on the essential tasks of lesson preparation and correction, will all harm pupils and the well-being of schools.”
