A UNIQUE pre-school visiting service similar to the Government’s new Sure Start programme for deprived under-fives has been saved.

Waltham Forest Council, in north-east London, had planned to axe the educational visitors service, which offers advice on early literacy and health care, making 18 teachers redundant. A council spokesman said the borough now planned to review all its services for under-fives.
