PUPILS who are persistently late for school are to get early-morning wake-up calls in a bid to boost their GCSE and general national vocational qualification grades. The “wakey, wakey” calls will be made to Merseyside youngsters whose success in this summer’s exams could be hampered by their continual lateness. The scheme in Knowsley sponsored by Telecoms company Telwest, is part of the town’s Plus One Challenge. The scheme aims to raise pupils’ GCSE and GNVQ results by at least one grade.
Meanwhile George Turnbull, of the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance, has told parents not to nag children studying for exams. Mr Turnbull, co-author of ‘How to do better in Exams’ said nagging parents only added to stress.
