In the article “A surprisingly tender plant” (TES, January 10) Victoria Neumark appears to accept that a former Shene School pupil’s claims of bullying were proven.

These allegations were not tested in court on the advice of the school’s insurers.

The governors did not accept the claims and were confident of a successful outcome had the case proceeded.

The local authority’s insurance company made an out-of-court settlement in which the governors admitted no liability.
