For the sake of historical accuracy, we must draw your attention to a serious error.

While we may celebrate the 70th anniversary of the publication of Winnie the Pooh’s biography in 1996, it is not his seventieth birthday (TES, October 18).

Pooh’s close friend, Christopher Robin, states quite clearly in his autobiography, The Enchanted Places, that Pooh was the oldest of his companions and was “only a year younger than I was”. That would make Pooh 74 years old, as Christopher Robin was born in 1921.
