Fewer than 25 per cent of this year’s US high-school graduates who took the college-entrance exam possessed the academic skills necessary to pass entry-level courses, according to new data. This is being interpreted as another challenge to President Obama’s drive to raise educational standards. A recent study found the US ranks only 12th in the percentage of adults aged 25 to 34 who have a college degree; Mr Obama has set a goal of becoming number one.
