(Photograph) - THE FIRST of a series of vandal-proof ‘hang-out’ shelters has been built in a Liverpool park. Described as a cross between a bus-shelter and a bandstand, it has been created with the help of young people as somewhere they can meet without intimidating local residents. Steve Richards, spokesman for Liverpool’s Citysafe campign, said: ‘We want to give young people somewhere safe to meet and remove the fear felt by some local people when they see youths hanging about street corners. We’ve had a good reaction to the shelter so far and kids are using it. We will be looking closely at how this one works before deciding whether to extend the scheme.’
