Visitors to The TES online staffroom have warned that alarm bells should ring if the words “improving school”, “exciting times”, “challenging”, “developing” or “vibrant” appear.
One contributor wrote: “If it says ‘join this developing department’ it means that the head of department has taken ill-health retirement, several other people have left, and there is hardly anyone there any more.”
Other danger signs include adverts in which the logo takes up more space than the words, especially if the logo includes an Investor in People award.
Teachers are also cautioned to beware of short lunch-breaks - a sign of potential behaviour problems - and schools that have recently changed name.
