Just bestowed with National Grid for Learning approval is Victorian Times. Aimed at all learners, from key stage 2 through to university students and lifelong learners, this website is part of the national digitisation scheme funded by the New Opportunity Fund. It looks at “the social, political, and economic development of Great Britain in the Victorian era”.

From the homepage you can go straight to the main themes: health, education, housing, transport, industry, and labour and trade unions. Each opens up into a timeline, educational resources and virtual tours. But there are plenty of other ways to approach the original material in this comprehensive site created by the University of Strathclyde, the London School of Economics and the Stationery Office.
