GUESTS at the charter signing were told by Douglas Osler, senior chief inspector of schools that enterprise was a vital asset for today’s school-leavers.
“We have refuted consistently any perception that in some way education for work is reverting to a system based on Victorian and Edwardian utilitarian values, where most of the products of the education system were destned for the factories, the fields or the forces. It was a case of ‘3Rs for 3Fs’,” Mr Osler said.
He added: “Nothing could be further from today’s vision of education for work in an inclusive school system.
“The current vision values flexibility, enterprise, self-reliance, creativity and critical thinking and this is exactly what schools should be about.”
