TES books editor Geraldine Brennan on the inside literary track
Will June 26 be just an ordinary end-of-exam-season Monday in your secondary school? Not if your students write an award-winning rap and win a visit from Benjamin Zephaniah (pictured). Harcourt, the publisher of the Heinemann New Windmills Fiction series, which now includes a schools hardback edition of Zephaniah’s novel Gangsta Rap, will organise an author visit for the school that submits the best entry on CD, DVD, video, cassette tape or even on paper.
One attempt only per school by up to six students; closing date May 14; the winning school has to pay Zephaniah’s travel (from London) and accommodation expenses. Also, he’s a vegan: start planning a fabulous animal-free lunch for him now. More details and entry form on www.heinemann.co.ukassetsmiscenglish.htm.
