Ten games teachers from schools across Scotland were guests of the Scottish Volleyball Association on a week-long visit to watch the French regional junior women’s volleyball squad training at a sports school near Lille.

The Centre d’Education Populaire et Sportif - one of 29 across France - offers volleyball training to 14- to 17-year-old girls twice a day, combined with academic studies.

“It is all linked to the education system in France,” explained SVA development coach Nick Moody, “and if the girls do not come up to scratch academically, then they will be dropped from the programme.”

The SVA party also included a Scottish junior women’s squad of 15 players, who played twice against the CREPS squad (won one match, lost one) and local club sides.
