The Cardinal Sports Youth Cup, to be staged at three different venues in Edinburgh on Sunday, has attracted a record 111 teams, making it Britain’s biggest junior volleyball event. The tournament, staged at Meadowbank, Ainslie Park and Crags sports centres, has grown from just eight teams in its first year in 1998. Organised by the City of Edinburgh club, there are events from P3 age up to S4 level.

Ian Brownlee, chief organiser, said: “Organising the event is daunting at times and very hard work, but it is worth every hour to see hundreds of young volleyball athletes being the best they can be on the courts in the capital.”
