VSO volunteers leave Solomon isles

TEN British teachers are being evacuated from the Solomon Islands following an escalation of fighting this week after the Prime Minister was taken hostage by rebels.

The teachers are all volunteers ith VSO, the development charity, which decided to repatriate them as fears for their safety grew. A school was hit when rebels bombarded a coastal village, but it had already been evacuated.
