Walk-to-school strategy afoot

CHILDREN who are taken to school by car are failing to learn potentially life-saving road-crossing skills, according to a survey. Of the 260,000 youngsters from Yorkshire and Humberside questioned by Leeds City Council, third were driven to school even though it was within easy walking distance of their home. The authority is now exploring strategies for encouraging more parents to let children make their own way to school.
