Chris Keates, acting general secretary of the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers, issued a generally positive press relase this week on the Conservative party’s campaign against compensation culture.
But, Chris, who is married to a Conservative councillor, puts a sting in its tail: “For the party to deliver its promises, it would have to win a general election. Teachers, who are at risk on a daily basis, can’t really wait that long.” Of course, the put- down has nothing to do with the Tories’ recent press release mistaking the distinctly feminine Keates for a bloke (Diary, August 13).
