FEW will be surprised to learn that although dictionaries are to be banned in public exams, it seems that the decision on whether exam boards will be allowed to revert to issuing full vocabulary lists has yet to be made.

The children who will sit the first of the new GCSE exams in 2003 will start Year 8 in September. A decision therefore needs to be made sooner rather than later.
