CAPITAL HISTORY

Complementing the success of programmes such as Who Do You Think You Are? the London Metropolitan Archives have launched a website for key stages 2 and 3 pupils to help trace family and local history. The SchoolMate site contains information about those who have settled in London since the 16th century including Black and Asian people, the French and the Irish. Maps, images, timelines and case studies are all available as well as teacher notes containing worksheets and suggested places to visit.

FILL IN THE GAPS

For students taking a gap year, this website provides an abundance of advice. There is information about booking flights and accommodation, travel insurance, health and safety and keeping in touch as well as tips about how to get there, what to do and visa and work permits.

There is also advice about managing your finances, and using your experiences to impress employers and universities. You can arrange for a member of the Gapwork team to talk to students and further teaching resources are available through the website.
