Splash! More than 300 12 to 13-year-olds from Lord Williams’s School fell in the Thames, paddled through it and took part in adventure activities around its banks. This was the school’s annual week at the National Scout Centre in Marlow. For more than six years the school (at 1,970 the largest in Oxfordshire) has been making the 40-minute trip down the M40 to give pupils an experience of outdoor education. The PE department plans sporting activities while the technology and art departments devise creative tasks, which this year included painting a giant mural. Deputy headteacher David Jones says the trip also provides a great learning experience for the accompanying sixth formers who with staff and parents form the supervising group of about 40.
