The new A-levels offer an A* grade that can only be obtained from A2 exams - fixing the problem (if there ever was one) for Oxbridge. The most pernicious impact of removing AS-levels will be that universities will be forced to rely on teachers’ predicted grades - and from what I’ve heard, a number of schools are being forced by parents to up these grades to the point where they’re not worth the paper they’re written on.
