ALMOST half of primary schools in Wales are good at evaluating their own work, and a further 40 per cent are satisfactory, according to Estyn, the Welsh inspectorate. Only 15 per cent of the primary schools inspected during 1999-2000 fell below the required standard. These schools were often unclear about priorities or wre trying to run too many initiatives at once with no clear idea of the links between them, the inspectors say. Self-evaluation in primary schools, adding value and making a difference can be obtained from Estyn, Phase 1, Government Buildings, Ty Glas Road, Llanishen, Cardiff CF14 5FQ, tel: 029 2032 68395000.
