WELSH children are being served school meals that cost as little as 32p to prepare, a report by Cardiff University reveals. Primary pupils in Wales pay pound;1.25 for each school meal. The report by the university’s Regeneration Institute said catering staff were being asked to perform minor miracles daily and deliver quality meals for between 32p and 38p. Adrian Morley, co-author of the report, said cheap meals were likely to be processed and high in sugar, fat and artificial preservatives.
