FIVE Welsh secondaries have been given awards for achieving the biggest improvement last year across the whole range of their GCSE results.

Ysgol Uwchradd Tregaron in Ceredigion registered the most improved key stage 4 results in the school improvement index scheme run by the Qualifications, Curriculum and Assessment Authority for Wales (ACCAC). Four schools received regional awards: Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen in Caernarfon, Sandfields comprehensive school in Port Talbot , Glyn Derw high school in Cardiff and Lewis Boys’ comprehensive school in Blackwood, Caerphilly.
