The national pay strike of lecturers highlights the situation of those of us who have refused to relinquish Silver Book contracts and have, therefore, been refused any pay rises.
Those keeping to old contracts have done so mainly because of domestic care responsibilities, so this punitive line seems outrageous when there should be equal pay for equal work.
We don’t expect the salary levels of those who work for moe weeks of the year, but we should be equal pro-rata and have the same rights as our colleagues. To be told that we will never be given more money seems vindictive.
The lecturers’ unions have given up on this grey area. Who else can we go to for assistance? Before long we will earn less than the cleaners.
