Mike Kent (“Rebel without an answer”, Comment, 16 November) may have been the victim of a decision by some local authorities to send the full version of our annual national school food survey (designed to be completed by local authority monitoring staff) on to schools, when in fact schools are only required to complete one short sheet of information. Sorry Mike. We ask all local authorities to take part in the survey, as it is the only robust national monitoring of school food take-up and services. The findings help us - and the Department for Education, which has commissioned this survey since 2006 - to make sure that heads are getting the support and information they need.

Judy Hargadon, Chief executive, Children’s Food Trust.
