Teachers of Albanian-speaking children from Kosovo need to be able to talk to their families. An inexpensive Albanian-English phrasebook, hitherto hard to find, will be a great help. It doesn’t claim to be comprehensive but it covers a remarkable range in its 150 pages. The translations operate in both linguistic directions, and the phrases, arranged in clear categories, cover greetings, numbers and oter basic words, as well as conversations about documents, clothing, schooling, children’s health and travelling. Let’s hope “beautiful baby” is used more often than “she’s been crying” or “blocked toilet”.
