Independent company Suspended Animation has produced two videos for school use. Storytelling with Miso’shi features a Ghanaian storyteller’s work with primary pupils. As she develops increasingly complex versions of a traditional tale, the children are caught up in decisions about narrative structure, characterisation and genre. If that sounds like the literacy strategy, it’s also a reminder that much great literature comes from oral cultures. The Silent Years outlines a day in a 2th-century monastery, seen through the eyes of a novice monk. Using animation and set to Gregorian chant, it packs humour, incident and instruction into its 15 minutes. Storytelling with Miso’shi package including teaching guide pound;47. The Silent Years pound;20. Discount offer for both pound;60. Suspended Animation, 27 Forest Lane, Harrogate, North Yorkshire HG2 7HB.
