Hollywood cartoons are a bit of a gift for the literacy hour and one that Film Education always manages to exploit with verve. To coincide with the video release of Prince of Egypt (pictured), Film Ed’s latest teaching guide has enormous fun in the land of the Pharaohs. As with previous publications, there are suggestions for whole-class activities, with plenty of cross-curricular links (use hieroglyphics to translate what Moses is saying, and build your own pyramid, for instance) as well as writing and drawng tasks. In one, children are urged to create a newspaper front page for the day Moses parted the Red Sea. “Remember to get quotes from Rameses,” advises the guide. Would-be journalists take note.
