IF Anglican schools are to become more actively Christian and to increase in numbers (TES, December 8), I hope that all local authorities will make it a priority to offer parents who are not Christian the genuine choice of an education for their children.
Already in many places there is no choice but the local church school, leading to the unedifying spectacle of parents with no faith taking up church-going simply in orderto get their child into their local school, a school which they pay for through their taxes. Those unwilling to participate in this charade often find that their children have to travel long distances to the nearest community school. Any expansion of religious schools would therefore have to be matched by an expansion of community schools.
