A key whistleblower on a college mismanagement scandal which rocked further education has stepped down. Brian Bonsall, head of technology and NATFHE branch chairman at Derby Tertiary College, Wilmorton, played a leading role in exposing inadequacies which led Education and Employment Secretary Gillian Shephard to order an inquiry into management at the college.

The Shattock Inquiry report, which found proper governance procedures had not been followed, led to the sacking of all but two governors. Mr Bonsall, one of those reappointed to the new governing body, has taken voluntary retirement after 29 years.
