Roger Lewis, managing director of classic FM, will chair the new advisory group for the Government’s Music and Ballet Schools Scheme. The group will advise the Education Secretary on the development of the scheme, which helps pay the fees of more than 700 exceptionally-talented children attending seven independent specialist schools.

Paul Dixon is to be the next head of Cheadle Hulme school, an independent co-educational school in Cheshire. Mr Dixon, who has been headmaster of Reigate grammar school for the past four years, was previously deputy head of Stockport gramar. He takes up the new post next year.

Keith Sharpe has been appointed director of the Bedford campus and dean of the new faculty of education and sports science at De Montfort University.

A former school head, he has been professor of education and head of the department of education at Liverpool University since 1998. Elizabeth Leo is the new head of the De Montfortschool of education. She was previously assistant to the dean of research at the Institute of Education in London. She takes over from Professor Peter Walden, who retires in the summer.
