MICHAEL Scullion, former principal of Marymount International School in Rome has been appointed headteacher of Our Lady of Sion school, Worthing. Mr Scullion succeeds Brian Sexton who retired in July.

Elisabeth Elias has been appointed to chair the Girls’ Day School Trust. The former barrister succeeds Dr Anne Hogg and will take up office in September. Mrs Elias is a governor of the University of Glamorgan.

The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts has appointed Flo Clucas as chairwoman on the retirement of Anthony Field CBE. Ms Clucas is deputy leader of Liverpool City Council. She ws formerly head of English at St Paul’s high school, Liverpool.

Jane Sheldrake, former principal of Lilian Baylis school in south London, is the new field officer for the Independent Schools’ Council. The former science teacher will monitor education developments and their implications for independent schools.

Jim Muncey will lead the new standards and effectiveness division at Leicester City Council’s education department. Mr Muncey, former chief education adviser in Coventry, is responsible for building close links with heads as part of the city’s drive to raise standards.
